Cahn-Hilliard inpainting with the double obstacle potential

چکیده
The inpainting of damaged images has a wide range of applications and many different mathematical methods have been proposed to solve this problem. Inpainting with the help of Cahn-Hilliard models has been particularly successful, and it turns out that Cahn-Hilliard inpainting with the double obstacle potential can lead to better results compared to inpainting with a smooth double well potential. However, a mathematical analysis of this approach is missing so far. In this paper we give first analytical results for a Cahn-Hilliard double obstacle model and in particular we can show existence of stationary solutions without constraints on the parameters involved. With the help of numerical results we show the effectiveness of the approach for binary and grayscale images.

Fast Solvers for Cahn-Hilliard Inpainting
We consider the efficient solution of the modified Cahn-Hilliard equation for binary image inpainting using convexity splitting which allows an unconditionally gradient stable time-discretization scheme. We look at a double-well as well as a double obstacle potential. For the latter we get a non-linear system for which we apply a semi-smooth Newton method combined with a Moreau-Yosida regulariz...
متن کاملA generalization of Cahn-Hilliard inpainting for grayvalue images
The Cahn-Hilliard equation has its origin in material sciences and serves as a model for phase separation and phase coarsening in binary alloys. A new approach in the class of fourth order inpainting algorithms is inpainting of binary images using the Cahn-Hilliard equation. We will present a generalization of this fourth order approach for grayvalue images. This is realized by using subgradien...
متن کاملInpainting of Binary Images Using the Cahn-Hilliard Equation
Image inpainting is the filling in of missing or damaged regions of images using information from surrounding areas. We outline here the use of a model for binary inpainting based on the Cahn-Hilliard equation, which allows for fast, efficient inpainting of degraded text, as well as super-resolution of high contrast images.
متن کاملFinite-dimensional attractors for the Bertozzi-Esedoglu-Gillette-Cahn-Hilliard equation in image inpainting
In this article, we are interested in the study of the asymptotic behavior, in terms of finite-dimensional attractors, of a generalization of the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a fidelity term (integrated over Ω\D instead of the entire domain Ω, D ⊂⊂ Ω). Such a model has, in particular, applications in image inpainting. The difficulty here is that we no longer have the conservation of mass, i.e. o...
متن کاملCahn--Hilliard Inpainting and a Generalization for Grayvalue Images
The Cahn-Hilliard equation is a nonlinear fourth order diffusion equation originating in material science for modeling phase separation and phase coarsening in binary alloys. The inpainting of binary images using the Cahn-Hilliard equation is a new approach in image processing. In this paper we discuss the stationary state of the proposed model and introduce a generalization for grayvalue image...
